A memorial service was held for Helen Lorraine Harris, 87, of North Bend, Ore. at 11 a.m. Thurs., Feb. 14 at the North Bend Chapel, 2014 McPherson Ave. Interment followed Mon., Feb. 18 in Portland, Ore. Cremation rites were held at Ocean View Crematory in Coos Bay, Ore.
Helen was born Jan. 1, 1926 in Alamosa, the daughter of David and Florence (Benton) Quick. She died Feb. 10, 2013 in North Bend, Ore.
Helen met her husband Edgar Harris, in sixth grade – he would throw rocks at her when she walked home from school. They were married in Alamosa May 21, 1946 after he was discharged for the U.S. Army.
Helen worked for the Bureau of Land Management in Alamosa.
Helen and Ed fell in love with the Oregon coast during a family vacation and when the opportunity arose the family moved to North Bend, Ore. in 1978. She continued working for BLM until her retirement in 1991.
Helen enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family.
Helen is survived by her husband, Edgar; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tracy and Julie, and Todd and Joyce; daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Steven; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Charlene and Eunice.
She touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
