Girls’ basketball defeats Bayfield 48-37

Posted: Friday, Feb 22nd, 2013

Taylor Hackett, left front, put up a strong defense during the girls’ varsity basketball game Thursday with the Bayfield Wolverines. Alamosa ended the well-played and competitive game with a 48-37 win over Bayfield.

ALAMOSA — The Alamosa Mean Moose girls’ varsity basketball team ended its home game Thursday in a very different place from where it started.

By the end of the first half, the Bayfield Wolverines girls’ team was leading by 14-11. But the hometown players quickly rebounded at the start of the second half, and there was no going back from there.

The fourth quarter drew to a close with a 48-37 win in Alamosa’s favor.

Standout players included sophomore Taylor Nye, who scored nine points, followed by senior Blake Faucet and sophomore Taylor Hackett, with eight points each. Freshmen Brooke Trujillo and Elise Tolley were not far behind, with seven points each. Juniors Nicole Broyles, Marissa Manzanares and Madison Howard added to the team’s wins.

Freshman Emily Sowards also helped out with one defensive rebound and one rebound on the offense, while sophomore Brianna Corona had one steal.

Head Coach Kent Smith credited the team as a whole for contributing to a very good effort during the third and fourth quarters.

“We finally shot the ball better in the second half,” he said.
