February is here and it will be a beautiful month with the highs mostly in the 40ís and there will only be a few nights at zero. There will still be ice on the sidewalks and streets so be sure to walk very carefully. A common problem among seniors is broken hips, which happens more frequently in winter. To prevent falls be sure to wear shoes with non-skid soles. Try to stay on sidewalks that have been cleared of snow and ice. Use handrails when available and avoid getting out after dark or in hazardous weather conditions.
For all drivers, you need to take precautions with your car. Make sure your car is winterized. Have tires checked for tread and pressure, check radiator levels, have hoses and belts inspected for cracks and leaks, inspect windshield wipers and fluid, make sure the battery is fully charged.
The Alamosa Senior Center has a new Activity Director Cletus Rinebarger. Welcome aboard Cletus, we are glad to have you.
