My husband and I just got back from skiing the cross country trail at the golf course in Alamosa. The temperature was 9 degrees and the sun was shining. It was wonderful.
I would like to thank the San Juan Nordic Club, especially Adam Moore, for making it possible for locals to get out and enjoy this winter. The San Juan Nordic Club has raised money to buy equipment to set and maintain trails. Members donate personal money, time, and expertise in setting and maintaining not only the trail here in Alamosa but also at Rock Creek, The Monte Vista Golf Course, Big Meadows, and South Fork. Donations to help defray these costs can be made to the San Juan Nordic Club at 113 Spring Creek Drive, Mosca, Colorado 81146. Visit the website at http://sjnordic.wordpress.com/ for trail conditions and updates.
This has been a tough winter so far. Thirty degree below zero temperatures have caused numerous broken pipes, cars that wonít start, and disgruntled people. The cold seems to be the predominant topic of conversation, and I havenít heard anyone praising it. I encourage all who cross country ski or snow shoe to try the Alamosa course during a lunch break or on a weekend afternoon. Itís good for your body and your spirit. Alamosa may be the coldest spot in the nation, but this trail is going to help me make it through this winter!
