Letter: Mosca does not need a liquor store

Posted: Thursday, Jan 17th, 2013

I understand the former Zip Code Cafe in Mosca Co has been purchased for the purpose of a retail liquor store.  It was mentioned at a County Commissioners meeting Jan 8th 2013, that since the Sangre High School was no longer there, a liquor store business in Mosca would be an acceptable location for one, why? Many of the homeowners and residents in and around Mosca feel differently and also were not approached by the one or ones taking a petition around for signatures.

For well over 120 years since the beginning of Mosca, the Mosca Schools have been the backbone of our community and town, and for all those years our small town has been made up of close knit family people and family run businesses, where young and old alike could enter their doors and be welcome.  Our town and surrounding neighborhood still has young families with children, older adults and senior citizens living here.  We all live with the feeling of security in our homes and community.  I feel the majority of the residents in and around Mosca would want to keep our quiet type town and neighborhood atmosphere.  Even tho the school is no longer here, we want to remain the same old Mosca community with healthy growth.  I as well as others in Mosca feel a liquor store business in Mosca with only ages 21 and over allowed in would not be desired, and could also draw crime related problems.  The new Sangre School K thru 12 is less than two miles from the liquor store location which could also cause concerns.

I am sure we would all welcome the owners to come up with a business that would better fit our neighborhood.

Sincerely Sabrie Brown

A long time home owner

and resident of Mosca
