ALAMOSA ó The City of Alamosa is soliciting proposals from local or regional artists or groups of artists to display their work on a rotating basis throughout the City Hall and Library Complex. The artwork(s) will be situated in prominent locations throughout the building. The period of display will be for six months at which time another artistís work will replace the current exhibits. The number of pieces to be displayed in the City Hall/Library Complex depends on the size of the pieces; the two primary display walls are approximately 20 feet wide by 10 feet high.
Eligibility: The project is open to all artists, age 18 and over, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical or mental disability. Artists must ensure that work will be suitable for viewing by residents of all ages. Work that is deemed unsuitable by the selection committee will not be considered.
Timeline: January 14- February 28 Submissions accepted; March Selection Committee to meet award the project; April 1 Begin 6 month display
How to apply: Artists interested in this project must prepare and submit the following:
1. Letter of Interest. The letter should be no more than one page in length and should explain the artistís interest in the project.
2. Digital Portfolio of 3+ pieces that are representative of the work to be displayed.
3. Artists Statement and CV. Please forward all electronic submissions to email@example.com; physical documents should be dropped off or mailed to the Alamosa Family Recreation Center, 2222 Old Sanford Road, Alamosa.
Selection Process: An artist selection panel consisting of at least two community members and one representative from the City of Alamosa will review artist submissions and choose one or more artists to display their work. Work will be selected based on the following criteria:
* Artistic merit (composition, technical skill, concept)
* Appropriateness for viewing by a diverse audience
Artists selected are eligible to participate in a subsequent six month display period if requested.
This project is not themed and any and all works will be considered. Although the City of Alamosa does not endorse any restrictions on any particular artistic content, in making decisions the projectís Artist Selection Panel will consider the fact that the users of the building will see this artwork(s) along with the public and its varying opinion on tastefulness.
Regarding any inquiry to purchase the displayed pieces; a brochure with the appropriate artistís contact information and cost of the item (if for sale) will be made available in the lobby of the building.
