ALAMOSA — 40 years. While most of us have trouble remembering what we did even the day before, Porter Realty, Inc. knows exactly where they were four decades ago.

“You can definitely say we have seen our fair share of ups and downs,” says a smiling Mike Porter, Alamosa and San Luis Valley area broker since 1971. “But through it all, we are still here – serving the local community with excellent service and expert advice, and achieving exceptional results in the end.”

Valley residents since 1969, the Porter family has grown to include not only those who work within the agency (Mike and Mary Ann Porter, together with their son Preston), but also encompasses each and every person they’ve assisted in securing land, commercial properties, and most importantly, places to call “home.”

“We help people undertake what is one of the most stressful decisions they will encounter,” says Mike. “We understand the importance of finding a home, perfect piece of land, or business opportunity.”

Porter continues, “So with every relationship we enter, smoothing the course is our number one priority.”

Like all good things, the business is evolving, growing to enhance what has already been a highly impressive track record.

Preston Porter – who has personally led the residential sales market for two years straight – just recently purchased a majority share of the company.

Not hesitating to make a splash, he quickly hired another top producing agent in Greg Goodwin (formerly Century 21’s top agent), and added Chuck Kelly for property management. While Mike and Mary Ann maintain an active role with the company, there is a lot of excitement surrounding the new direction.

“Our hat is hung on experience; we are proud of the fact that our team has more experience combined than any other realtor in the Alamosa area,” says Preston Porter. “Now we get the best of both worlds…the foundation that was built by my parents is still firmly rooted, and we have remodeled for ‘today’s’ real estate – using tech-savviness, superior market knowledge, and fresh thinking to fuel our continued success.”

Specifically, Greg Goodwin has been involved in San Luis Valley real estate since 1995, serving as past-president of the San Luis Valley Board of Realtors, and specializing in single-family residences, farms/ranches, income, and commercial properties. Greg was recently named 2012 San Luis Valley Realtor of the Year. His achievements are pinned on the ability to stay current – and even ahead – of industry changes and trends.

“For us, it’s important that people realize this is not all just for show,” says Goodwin. “We are in the business of providing excellent service in a world where the value of doing so is sometimes forgotten,” he continued. “Every move we make is calculated for the benefit of our clients...it’s that simple.”

One of the ones providing that service is Nicolle Shawcroft, the ever-present front desk smile. Nicolle has been with Porter Realty for over four years. Her dedication and reliability adds just one more constant to the equation.

At the end of the day, the Porters are adamant about the fact that they are still the same company the Valley has been able to rely on since the 70’s and the office since 1991. The only difference is that now, with the evolution of the company through key agency additions, they’ve increased their ability to maintain unbeaten methods that were established on day one – while carrying out excellent service and expert advice to achieve exceptional results for many, many years to come.
