Although it may not appear too inviting for disc golfers now, this Alamosa Ranch area that includes the disc golf course will likely become Alamosa’s largest city park in 2013. The Alamosa city council last night unanimously made a motion authorizing staff to start the process towards developing a city park on about 107 acres of the Alamosa Ranch. The area has not been used for cattle ranching for more than 10 years but has become increasingly popular for recreational uses. As an official city park, it would be eligible for grant funding. The new park would incorporate the existing disc golf course as well as future cross country course, walking trails and other recreational pursuits. The city’s recreation advisory board recommended establishment of this part of the ranch as a city park.
