TUCSON, Ariz. Gearld Eugene (Gino) Gallardo, age 63, passed away December 21, 2012 at the Southern Arizona Veterans Administration Hospital in Tucson, Arizona, following a long battle with bone cancer. A former resident of Antonito, Colorado, Gino was born on February 12, 1949 in Conejos County to Eva Valdez and Orlando Gallardo.
Preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Isidro Ike and Margarita Valdez, Gino is survived by his former wife Tammy Weaver and their three children, sons Jerry (Chastity) and Shannon (Michelle), and daughter Sonya (Paul) Quarrier, as well as eight grandchildren, all of Crestview, Florida. Gino is also survived by his brother, Orlando (Erma) Gallardo of Antonito, Colorado and sisters Merlinda (Manuel) Marquez of Alamosa, Colorado, Barbara (Albert) Romero of Littleton, Colorado, Veronica (Albert) Malouff of Antonito, Colorado, Genevieve Repogle (Jan) of Seattle, Washington and Carol Garcia of Denver, Colorado, and his many nephews, nieces and other relatives.
Gino served his country in the U.S. Army at Fort Rucker, Alabama. He was a very loveable and generous man, making contributions to several Catholic organizations. During his youth, he spent several years in Boys Town, Nebraska, where he became a star football player and was offered scholarships for the Nebraska Corn Huskers and Indiana Hooziers.
A memorial service will be held on May 29, 2013 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to his memorial fund in his name, in care of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, P.O. Box 305, Antonito, Colorado 81120.
