Sermon: Looking for peace

Posted: Friday, Dec 7th, 2012

January 1, 2000, that is the day that was to change all of our lives. This was the day that the computers on which we all depended would fail us. The scare was that all of our computer systems around the world would cease to function on December 31, 1999.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, hijackers flew two jets into the twin towers, in a coordinated attack. We lost a lot of people that day. We also lost the idea that we were safe in America.

Today we have people talking about the Mayan calendar. On December 21, 2012 something is supposed to happen. I beleive it is going to be another day. We donít feel safe anymore, people are looking for safety. We have people talking about global warming and how we are destroying the world.

A few million years ago we supposedly had an ice age where once the mammoth and caveman lived. Do you think the ice melted because the mammoth and the cave man gave off too much emissions? Just a thought.

Do we really think that we are BIG enough and have a power that goes beyond our little tiny earth to change the outcome of this place? We are a tiny speck in a place where galaxies go so far, that we canít see beyond them. We have a word for what keeps us from flying off the face of the earth. We call it gravity. Iím sure someone can try to explain how it came to be, but they didnít create it and they canít duplicate it.

I do beleive there is a power that goes beyond our human capabilites. Someone bigger than us made this place and called the moons and stars into place and even called gravity into place.

I do beleive that things are changing in our world. I do beleive that there will be a day that no man knows, when all things will change, in a twinkling of an eye.

There are people hollering, the sky is falling, preparing for something cataclysmic. How about preparing our lives to meet the creator of this world? That is the only thing that is going to save us. I do beleive preperation is good, but the preparations we should be taking, is preparing our lives for the day when we meet our creator.

If we place our trust in the creator and not on the creation, we will be saved. I donít have an answer for a lot of things and Iím really not trying to be conterversial, we already have enough of that.

But, we are all looking for peace of mind as well as peace in our hearts and souls.

We are coming into a season where we celebrate Christmas. Some want to take out Christmas and replace it with ďHappy Holidays.Ē We may not see anything wrong with that, but itís the Christ of Christmas that brings peace. If we take Christ out we donít have the peace that we all are looking for.

In ending, let me leave you with a quote from a book that has stood the test of time.

Luke 2:14

King James Version (KJV)

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Finding world peace isnít about someone being in charge or making more rules to control people or even a mystic euphoria. It is about celebrating and receiving the Christ of Christmas.

Give your life to Christ and you will find the peace youíre looking for.

God Bless and Merry Christmas
