ALAMOSA — Alamosa resident Jose “Willie” Guillermo Maestas, 70, passed away December 3, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Willie was born on September 10, 1942 in Amalia, New Mexico the son of Gilbert R. Maestas and Florinda Gonzales Maestas. Willie served his country six years in the Colorado National Guard and retired from Safeway Stores, Inc. Willie was a wonderful companion, father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who enjoyed painting, fishing and restoring old cars.
Willie’s final wishes were to tell all of his family and friends that he loved each and every one of them and wanted to thank them for everything they have done for me! I did it my way.
Survivors include his mother Florinda Maestas of Amalia, NM; mother of his children Annette Maestas of Torrance, Calif.; one daughter Wanda (Porfirio) Whatley of Aurora, Colo.; sons William Gilbert Jack Maestas of Torrance, Calif.; Christopher Angelo Maestas of Torrance, Calif.; four grandchildren Miguel Ponce, Anjelica Whatley, Marissa Whatley, Nathan Maestas. Four great-grandchildren Mikayla Ponce, Miguel Ponce Jr., Anthony Ponce and Rey Diaz; sisters Eva Mondragon of Littleton, Colo.; Ruby (Pat) Mascarenas of Alamosa, Colo.; Lillian (Don) Jacquez of Alamosa, Colo.; Beatrice (Roger) Gallegos of La Jara, Colo.; one brother Gilbert Louie (Shirley) Maestas of Alamosa, Colo., his partner Beverly Lobato of Alamosa. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Willie was preceded in death by his father Gilbert Maestas and his grandparents Julian and Rebecca Gonzales.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. also at the Sacred Heart Church. Interment will follow at the Alamosa Cemetery with full military honors. Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday and Friday from 1-5 at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa who is in care of arrangements.
