Letter to the editor: Thank local ski businesses

Posted: Tuesday, Dec 4th, 2012

The San Juan Nordic Club is an informal non-profit organization composed of cross-country ski enthusiasts seeking to improve the cross-country skiing opportunities in the San Luis Valley area. We groom trails for cross-country skiing at Rock Creek, Big Meadows and the South Fork Guard Station. The grooming equipment used to maintain these trails was obtained through a grant from Great Outdoors Colorado.

The cost of the equipment increased since the grant was written. In order to help meet grant obligations we sponsored a gear swap on Saturday, Dec. 1 as a fundraiser. The event was a success thanks to many members of the public donating gear to sell or purchasing gear.

We would also like to thank the local ski businesses that made the swap a success. Kristi Mountain Sports in Alamosa, 8,200 Mountain Sports in South Fork and San Juan Sports in Creede. Please support Nordic skiing in the San Luis Valley this winter by purchasing or renting from these businesses.

Visit the club on the internet for more information, http://sjnordic.wordpress.com/
