Anna Virginia (Roetker, Slane) Denton, 92

ALAMOSA — Anna Virginia (Roetker, Slane) Denton, 92, long time resident of Hooper, Colo. passed away at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa, Colo. on November 18, 2012.

Anna was born on May 29, 1920 in Caney, Kansas to Anthony John Roetker and Etta Bess (Rice) Roetker.

She had four sisters and one brother. She is survived by one sister, Regina Cunningham of Missouri. Her brother Merrette Roetker and sisters Ethal Roetker, Mildred (Ray) Clutter and Mary Marjorie (Sam) Wills preceded her in death.

Anna grew up in the San Luis Valley and attended school in Center, Moffat, and Hooper, Colorado.

She married Roy John Slane on November 14, 1936. Roy preceded her in death in 1961. To their union were born five children, Cleo M. (Kenneth) Powell of Monte Vista, Colo. Jimmy H. Slane of Hooper, Colo. Tom D. (Cindy) Slane of Victor, Colo. William “Bill” (Peggy) Slane of Cherryvale, Kans., and John W. (Tina) Slane of Hooper, Colo.

Anna was preceded in death by her daughter Cleo, grandson Donald Powell, and her son Bill.

She is survived by seven grandchildren: Jimmy’s daughter Tandy Slane Ducette of Sanford, N.C., Tom’s children Joe Slane of Hooper, Colo., and Loretta Slane (Fox) of Carpenter, Wyo., Bill’s children Steve Kelly of Kansas City, Kan., and Robert “Bobby” Slane of Cherryvale, Kan., and John’s children Tuck Slane of Hooper, Colo. and Alisha Slane of Hooper, Colo., two step-granddaughters Tom and Cindy’s children Carri and Danae of Colorado Springs.

Anna had ten great-grand children: Tandy’s children Melissa and Ryan, Joe’s children Ryan, Brooke, Jake, Jessica, Loretta’s children Kyle and Amethyst, and Bobby’s children Caleb, Conner. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was remarried to Charlie Denton who preceded her in death in 1985. Charlie was buried in the Uraca Cemetery.

Anna requested cremation with no funeral. She will be interred beside her first husband Roy, in the Monte Vista Cemetery
