MONTE VISTA — Homelake resident Epifanio Reynaldo Trujillo, 93, passed away on November 25, 2012 at Homelake Veteran Center in Monte Vista surrounded by his loving family. Epifanio “Eppie” was born on November 30, 1919 in Edith, the son of Manuel Trujillo and Teresa Lobato. Epifanio was a pioneer ranching man who settled in Montezuma then moved to Trujillo where the family established a general store, a one room schoolhouse and post office. Epifanio received his education through the Archuleta County School District. He married Maria Dolores Martinez on November 19, 1945 in Pagosa Springs. In 2010, Epifanio and Maria renewed their wedding vows on their 65th wedding anniversary in a private ceremony at home.
Epifanio resided in Trujillo until 1981 when he and his wife moved to Monte Vista to be closer to their children that were living in the San Luis Valley. With his wife’s declining health, Epifanio chose to move to Homelake Veteran Center in 2010 where he resided until his passing. Epifanio was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and friend to many. Epifanio was a proud veteran of World War II and was also a member of the Army-Air Force. He was an ordinance administrator from January 1942-October 1945. His hobbies included: restoring family antiques, fishing, gardening, riding horses, singing, dancing, cheering on the New York Yankees, doting on his wife “Mama” of 67 years and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his children: Benjamin Donald, Monte Vista; Joseph Alfred, Pagosa Springs; Celina Andrea Espinoza, Manassa; and Gloria Elena (Tomas) Lopez, Pojoaque, N.M.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Epifanio is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Teresa Trujillo, two sisters, Emma and Elisa, son-in-law Dr. Michael P. Espinoza, one grandson Bryan Edward and one infant son Epifanio Pedro Trujillo.
Cremation was chosen and a vigil service with the recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, November 30 at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish in Monte Vista. Mass of the Resurrection will be held in Monte Vista on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Parish in Monte Vista. Visitation and viewing will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home of Monte Vista who is in care of the arrangements.
