WOODLAND, Calif. — Gene (Zack) Herrera, 62, passed away on November 21, 2012 in Woodland, Calif. He was born in Alamosa on January 30, 1950. He was the oldest of nine children born to Abel and Bernice Herrera. He was raised in Manassa with his grandparents Jacobo and Margarita Chacon, whom he knew as Mom and Dad, his sister Lorraine and his nephews Leroy and Frank Martinez, niece Angela Alarid and cousin Benny Martinez. He moved to Davis, Calif. in 1985 where his mother, four brothers and three sisters lived.
Zack was preceded in death by his grandparents, father, mother and two brothers.
He is survived by his sisters, Linda Dominguez, Felicia Herrera, Denise (Les) Schroeder from Davis, Calif. and Lorraine (Frank) Thomas from Blythe, Calif. His brothers, Tom and Ron Herrera from Davis, Calif. Nephews Leroy (Renee) Martinez, Frank (Diana) Martinez and niece Angela Alarid from Denver and cousin Benny (Marlene) Martinez from Manassa. He also has numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Colorado and California as well as his childhood friend, Norris (Slim) Martin from Manassa. The nephews, niece and cousin in Colorado he was raised with were considered brothers and sister along with his sister, Lorraine.
Zack will be buried in Manassa as were his wishes.
