CANYON — Canyon resident Amos E. Montoya, 84, passed away on November 20, 2012, at the Rio Grande Inn, surrounded by his loving family.
Amos was born December 9, 1927, in Canyon, Colorado, the son of Samuel Montoya and Helen Garcia Montoya.
Amos was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He retired from the U.S. Forest Service.
Amos was a wonderful father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed looking for arrowheads, hunting, fly fishing, hauling wood, being outdoors and spending time with his loving family.
Survivors include three daughters, June Montoya of Antonito, Colo.; Mary Ellen Montoya of Denver, Colo.; Jennifer (Darryle) Jaramillo of La Jara, Colo.; sons Leon Montoya of Durango, Colo.; Elmer Montoya of Antonito, Colo.; Alvin Montoya of Antonito, Colo.; Dale Montoya (Emelia) of La Jara, Colo.; brothers Virgil Montoya of Antonito, Colo.; Wallace Montoya of Denver, Colo.; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Amos was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Helen Montoya, his wife Mary Montoya, sisters Lucille Pryor and two infant sisters Louella and Georgiana Montoya.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, November 23, 2012, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Conejos. Interment will follow at the Presbyterian Cemetery in Mogote with full Military Honors. Viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, November 23, 2012, from 1-5 p.m. at the Romero Chapel in Antonito, who is in care of the arrangements.
