ASU writers to read from works

Posted: Friday, Nov 16th, 2012

ALAMOSA – The Adams State University senior creative writing majors Jason Slauson, Nathaniel Sellers, and Kylie Bowen will read from their work at 7 pm. Tuesday, Nov. 27, in McDaniel Hall room 103. A guest writing workshop, with author Chad Parmenter, will be held from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, in McDaniel Hall room 240. All events are free and open to the community. Free refreshments will be served.

Parmenter is a visiting assistant professor at Niagara University. He earned his Bachelor of Arts at Central Missouri State University, and his MFA at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale; he received his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. His poems have appeared in Best American Poetry, Kenyon Review, Harvard Review, and elsewhere. His chapbook, Bat & Man: A Sonnet Comic Book, is available from Finishing Line Press.

In August of 2005, he worked at a homeless shelter in Alamosa, working on his chapbook, and incorporating it into a larger collection. “The San Luis Valley, for me, is a space where diverse people and varied landscapes can find common ground, and shine on it. Poetry can do that, too. It brings differences into harmony,” Parmenter said. Contact 587-7862.
