BLANCA — A medical condition is suspected in connection with a traffic accident Saturday afternoon near Blanca.
The driver of the vehicle, Glen Clair Hufman, 87, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Costilla County Coroner, but Colorado State Patrol investigators suspect a medical condition was a contributing factor to the crash and are not classifying the accident itself as a fatal.
The Colorado State Patrol responded to a one-vehicle crash on Colorado Highway 160, approximately one mile east of Blanca, in Costilla County on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 12:52 p.m. The crash involved an elderly couple from the rural Blanca area.
Investigation revealed that Hufman was driving a 2000 Buick Century sedan eastbound on Colorado Highway 160. The car traveled off the right side of the road where it collided with a stop sign and fence before stopping in a field.
Thelma Hufman, 87, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was not injured in the crash.
Both occupants were wearing a seatbelt.
The crash remains under investigation.
