BRUSH — Former San Luis Valley resident Pauline Eklund, 89, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center following a short illness.
She was born November 13, 1923, in Cook County, Texas, about 80 miles north of Dallas, to Roy and Clara Cummins.
As a young girl, Pauline helped her father on the farm. In 1937, the Cummins family moved to a farm near Lubbock, Texas. It was there that she met her future husband, Erik Eklund. They married on December 14, 1941.
In 1954, the Eklund family moved to the San Luis Valley near Mosca and Hooper to a small farm where they raised sheep and alfalfa hay.
Pauline has lived in the Brush community since 2001. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Dwayne Eklund of Brush, one sister, three grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Dennis, two sisters and one brother.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the San Luis Valley Cemetery in Monte Vista, Colo.
Visitation will be at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Brush on Wednesday from 2:30–4 p.m. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Dennis Eklund Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Heer Mortuary in Brush.
