Homicide/arson scene

ALAMOSA — The victim of an apparent homicide at 401 11th Street on October 28 has been identified as Glen Olivas, 55, a San Luis Valley resident with no specific address.

Alamosa County Coroner Kevin Rogers and Alamosa Police Chief Craig Dodd on Tuesday confirmed the identity of the victim whose body was found in the residence on 11th street early Sunday morning after Alamosa firefighters responded to a fire at that address.

The El Paso County Coroner’s office in Colorado Springs will be conducting an autopsy, according to Rogers. The results may not be available for several weeks. The cause of death is still under investigation.

The Alamosa Fire Department responded to smoke and flames at the south Alamosa residence shortly after 6 a.m. on Sunday. Firefighters discovered a fully engulfed structure fire and the body of a deceased male in the residence.

The Alamosa Police Department and Colorado Bureau of Investigation were summoned and are still investigating the homicide/arson. No charges had been filed in connection with the death as of Tuesday. Alamosa Police Department officers/investigators and agents of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation continue receiving information, following leads, and will soon be submitting forensic evidence for analysis, Dodd stated on Tuesday.

During the course of the Sunday investigation Orlando Flavio Rivera was arrested on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant that is unrelated to the homicide/arson, according to Chief Dodd.

Citizens with any information are asked to continue calling and providing information. Anyone driving near, stopping, or observing any activity near 401 11th Street in Alamosa between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m. on Sunday, October 28, are asked to contact Corporal John Vasquez at 719-589-2548 or CBI Agent Mark Morlock of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation at 719-542-1133.
