MONTE VISTA—Alamosa resident Thomas Starr, 85, died October 19, 2012 at the Juniper Village in Monte Vista under hospice care.
Thomas was born to Charles F. and Venus Hollingsworth Starr on July 22, 1927 in La Habra, California. He married his wife of 64 years, Virginia M. Maxwell, on August 14, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Thomas earned a master’s degree in computer science and worked as an electrical engineer for Sandia National Laboratories and retired after 35 years. He and his wife Virginia made the San Luis Valley their home for the last 20 years.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Monte Vista. Thomas loved hunting, fishing, golf, camping, horses and all animals. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Thomas was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Virginia Starr of Alamosa; his children John (Rozanne) Starr of Aloha, Ore. and Michael (Vohnda) Starr of Cumming, Ga., Mary (Scott) Davis of Del Norte, Colo.; his grandchildren: Joseph, Matthew, Thomas, Dylan, Catherine, Danielle, Robert, Nicholas and Charlie; as well as 8 great-grandchildren.
His parents and his sister Frankie L. Kramer preceded him in death.
Cremation was chosen and private family services were held. Contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice del Valle, the Conour Animal Shelter or to the charity of the donor’s choice in care of Rogers Family Mortuary of Monte Vista, which is in care of the arrangements.
