About six years ago I was doing a remodel on a house in Taos, New Mexico. Almost every day at lunch I would go to a local fast food restaurant for their “dollar menu.” Yes, I’m cheap. I like to call it being frugal.
The following is a “God’s classroom” moment. While standing in line waiting to order on many occasions I would watch an obviously mentally challenged young man do his job. He would clean the table and chairs, rearrange the napkins, salt and pepper holders, and properly place the monthly folded cardboard advertisement with absolute perfection. He would acknowledge, smile and say hello to every customer who walked within 10 feet of his work area.
He was a beam of positive light in a world of negative darkness.
This young man may not be perfect in the world’s eyes but he is in God’s eyes. God made him, gave him a purpose, and he is serving his king well.
You see folks, God does NOT make mistakes. This young man is not a mistake and neither are you! To say you have nothing to offer this world is to have no faith in the God who made you.
Genesis 1:27, “So God created humans in His image, in the image of God He created them. He created them male and female.”
Think of this passage this way. God does not build broken down 1952 Studebakers. He builds brand new Maseratis.
You have been produced by the best, with factory parts, to run down this highway of life glorifying Him at every turn.
When grandparents and/or parents “go home” and family pictures are passed down to new generations we do our very best to take care and treasure those images. We proudly show them to those who pass through our homes.
Let us remember each day that it is an honor to be made in God’s image, and we can thank Him every day by sharing with others the gifts He’s blessed us with.
I will end with this: The next time you are with someone, ask yourself this, Did you leave that person with your earthly image or the image of Jesus Christ?
