Optimist Club installs officers for 2012-2013

ALAMOSA – The Alamosa Optimist Club recently held their annual instillation ceremony for 2012-2013 at the Ramada Inn. Donna Priester, Colorado/Wyoming District Governor, Sharon Foster, Optimist Lt. Governor for Zone 10, and incoming Lt. Governor, Larry Brown, were present and inducted the new officers and welcomed new club members. The officers for the coming year are:

Heinz Bergann – President

James Trujillo – Vice President

Joelle Boos-Medina – Treasurer

Allyn Lewis – Secretary

Board of Directors: Kathleen Luna, Ramona Pacheco and Kellie Veneman

In addition to the installation of officers and directors, each year the club recognizes a club member who has given their time and energy to promote optimism during the previous year. This year, Joelle Boos-Medina was chosen for the Optimist of the Year Award.

Optimist International is one of the world’s largest service club organizations with 120,000 adult and youth members in 3,800 clubs in the United States, and throughout the world. Optimist Clubs are dedicated to “Bringing Out the

Best in Kids” and do their part through positive community service programs that reach more than six million young people each year.

The Alamosa Optimist Club has been proudly supporting the youth of Alamosa and the surrounding communities for over 21 years. Programs and service projects that the club is involved in include: The Avenue of Flags Project, Tri-Star Basketball Skills Challenge, SLV Relay Challenge, Youth Eyeglass Project, The Irlen Syndrome Reading Project, Boy Scouts Fundraising Project, Student of the Month, Essay and Oratory Contests, Christmas Project, and various donations to youth-oriented organizations.
