SARGENT The Sargent Farmers beat the La Veta Redskins, 49 - 20, making for a memorable 2012 homecoming. Less than two minutes into the game, Farmer senior Colton Cooley scored the first touchdown of the night. A Farmer fumble recovery minutes later eventually resulted in senior Austin Dillon crossing into the end zone, making the score 14-0. Before time could tick off of the clock in the second quarter, Farmer senior Austin Heersink walked in the third touchdown of the night and, after a successful two point conversion, 8 more points were put on the board. The Redskins responded on their next possession, but could not convert the two point attempt like they would after the final touchdown of the half, making the intermission score 22 Sargent, 14 La Veta.

Neither the Farmers or the Redskins could find the end zone in the third quarter due to a series of fumbles and incomplete passes.

The final 12 minutes, however, lifted the crowd from their seats. Again, less than two minutes into the game, the Farmers scored a touchdown and, again, it came from Cooley. Farmer junior Jace Bogle followed his teammate's lead and, after recovering a fumble, put six more points on the board giving Sargent comfortable lead, 34-24, with nine and a half minutes remaining in the game. With under six minutes to go, Farmer junior Nate Ramirez intercepted a pass in Redskin territory and ran the length of the field to score another touchdown complemented by a fast two point conversion, making the score 42 -14. Before Heersink scored the final Farmer touchdown of the night on a punt return sealed with the only extra point in the game with seconds remaining on the clock, the Redskins snuck in their last six points of the day.
