ALAMOSA A scheme to get her son out of the Alamosa County Jail placed Ernestina Bernadette Gallegos in handcuffs on Monday.

On Sept. 24 at 1:30 p.m. the Alamosa Police Department (APD) arrested Gallegos, 42, Alamosa, for conspiracy, theft between $500 and $15,000 and tampering with evidence. According to an APD press release, an employee of the First Stop gas station located at 3213 Main Street reported an unknown person broke her car window while it was momentarily parked at a restaurant on Sixth Street. She was en route from the gas station to the bank to make a deposit. The employee told the APD that money bags containing a large cash amount were stolen. After further investigation, the APD recovered the cash and made the arrest while Gallegos was allegedly in the act of bailing out her son, Anthony Nicolas Gallegos, 20, Alamosa, who has been in jail since July 22.

Gallegos posted $10,000 bail on Tuesday.

Anthony was placed in custody for criminal attempt in the third degree, attempt to murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct after allegedly stabbing Jeremy Montoya, 18, Alamosa, and Michael Sanchez, 22, Pueblo, in a fight at the 800 block of Tenth Street.

Gallegos was released earlier that Sunday from the Alamosa County Jail after completing his sentence for charges including driving under the influence-drugs; driving a defective vehicle; driving under restraint-revoked; and for having expired license plates in January. At the time, his license was revoked for criminal mischief-theft and he had a mandatory protection order.

Charges against at least two other suspects are pending, according to the press release.
