2010 Cats Classic continues Motocross Success
Posted: Wednesday, Jul 21st, 2010

ALAMOSA— The Cat Classic 2010, which is now in its third year, drew great numbers as a great day of racing on a great course took place on Sunday at the historic Sutak Raceway just south of Alamosa.

“This year’s biggest class was the open and 450 pro classes with riders, who just finished the national at Thunder Valley in Denver a few weeks ago,” said Dwight Catalano.

Not only were local motocross enthusiasts out in force so were talents from around the nation “Talent such as Todd and Travis Bannister were in attendance along with Coby Adair from New Mexico, who is an upcoming star in American Motocross,” noted Catalano.

Catalano went on to explain some of the exciting races that took place over the weekend.

“Local star and Dirt Rider cover for two editions, Kelby Pepper had the best race of the weekend. In his first Moto, Mark Flesia, a retired national rider led out of the gate and won. But in the second moto, Flesia got the hole shot, but Pepper decided to make quick work to the front and railed off of Flesias tires in the third turn” explained Catalano.

“Flesia followed for a lap and at the very same corner, slammed Pepper and took the lead much to the crowd’s pleasure. Not to be outdone the two swapped the lead several times with Flesia finally taking the lead.”

“Local contractors SLV Earth movers and Scott Scidmore prepped a track that was next to heaven in quality, found racers with throttles pinned and dragging bars in the deep sandy loam that the San Luis Valley is famous for,” said Catalano.

“We want to give our thanks to Pepper farms for rounding up water truck, and Dozer to keep the program running smoothly.”
