SAND DUNES — June was another busy month at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, with about 56,844 visitors entering the park.
June visitation was lower than last June’s level, but about 108 percent of the 12 year average for June. Most park visitors were unaffected by the Medano Fire burning in the mountains of the national preserve.
On average, July is the busiest month of the year at Great Sand Dunes, with more day users and slightly fewer overnight campers than in June.
In general, fewer people enter the park on Sundays through Wednesdays, while more people enter on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. For more information, contact the Visitor Center at (719) 378-6399.
