Engen progresses in post-season recovery
Posted: Tuesday, Nov 17th, 2009

FORT COLLINS — Although medical professionals are telling Courier Sports Editor Lloyd Engen he still has extensive rehab ahead, they are pleased with his progress since the September 5 sideline injury at the Sangre de Cristo football game that put him on the injured reserve list for the rest of the football season, and then some.

He continues to undergo painful, but progressive, therapy sessions as part of his recovery.

After adding Friday pool therapy workout to his Tuesday/Thursday physical therapy, his rehab team decided to add Wednesday massage therapy. Lloyd will start next week. Lloyd had an appointment with the hip “guru” of Fort Collins on Thursday and the doctor took x-rays and did an exam. The expert said that the surgeon in Denver did a good job and that all the many plates and screws still looked in place.

He said that Lloyd still needed at least another month of complete non weight bearing on his left leg and that it was still a long road of rehab ahead.

Not all has been drudgery, however.

Last weekend was a busy one. Ron and Holly Dea, who are hosting Lloyd at their Fort Collins home during his recovery, took him to see the Adams State vs CSU women’s basketball game Friday night. Saturday was the State Championship Cross Country meet held in Fort Collins. The family (including extended family member Lloyd) attended from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

“We were outside tooling all over the course visiting with many Valley folk and cheering all their teams to the finish line,” Ron Dea reported in an update on his houseguest.

Sunday the family went to the Carousel Dinner Theatre and saw “Rent.” Lloyd had a chance to have dinner with Mary and Kim Connor on Thursday night.

Lloyd still enjoys receiving cards at 1412 Salem St., Fort Collins 80525.
