OMS celebrates Rite of Passage

 Ortega Middle School (OMS), Alamosa, sent off its 2014 eighth grade class, above, to Alamosa High School last night during the 10th annual Rite of Passage celebration. “We are both saying goodbye to our awesome school,” said retiring OMS Principal Susie Paulson to the rising freshman. “You have all demonstrated leadership qualities all middle schools want... Be lifelong learners and use your knowledge and strength to make a trail others will follow.” OMS Student Council Co-Presidents Lexi Ortega and Tyler Zimmerman addressed their peers along with Aiden Campbell and Cameron Mobbley who were the winners of the annual Rite of Passage essay competition. Where Everybody Belongs (WEB) Leaders, the top 2014 eighth grade 25 students and special teachers were recognized during the ceremony, and Alamosa Board of Education Official Neil Hammer was the event’s guest speaker. All of the 146 incoming Mean Moose freshmen were honored with a certificate.
