ALAMOSA — “Rejoice, a Celebration of Art, Wine and Cheese,” is a premiere event this holiday season in Alamosa, hosted by Sacred Heart Parish.
The event, scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 4, features an art auction with various unique works of art by renowned local artists. It will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m. that evening in the Fireplace Room. Tickets, at $25 each, will be limited to 50 and may be purchased at Papers of Distinction, the parish hall or by calling event organizer Kathy Martinez, 589-5267.
Martinez explained that the event, which will raise funds to renovate Faistl Hall, began with an oil painting donated last year by local artist Pauline Beckner. The painting featured the front of Sacred Heart Church. The organizers for Sacred Heart’s bazaar believed the painting was too nice just to place in the bazaar so they held on to it.
Then, someone else donated two pots created by Sr. Lorraine, and Paul Stong’s family donated a milagros piece. Geronimo Olivas donated santos, and Martinez donated one of Sr. Mary Lavey’s pots.
One by one, pieces of art began to accumulate, and the idea for a special auction took shape. For the complete article see the 11-16-2013 issue.
