Maria Illenberger, an eighth grader at Ortega Middle School, right, went to meet Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, left, for the grand opening of the new civics center in Denver. The day started out with Sonia Sotomayor giving an inspirational speech. She told about how she grew up poor and had tons of hardships but through it all was able to dream big enough and achieve her goals. Sotomayor answered many questions from students that were present. Her main point that she wanted to share was to dream big and never give up. Maria got the honor of cutting the grand opening ribbon with Sotomayor and getting a tour with her. Every student at the event received an autographed copy of her autobiography.
