SARGENT — The sign up for Colorado Rio Grande Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program, also known as CREP, will be the subject of a public/producer informational meeting to be held at the new Sargent High School Auditorium on Thursday, May 30th beginning at 1 p.m. The USDA Farm Service Agency is hosting the meeting and will be joined by those representing the State of Colorado - Rio Grande Water Conservation District’s Sub District 1.
The goal of the Colorado Rio Grande CREP is to enroll up to 40,000 irrigated acres of cropland to significantly reduce agricultural water use of the confined and unconfined aquifer with in the project area of the Rio Grande Basin, reduce soil erosion, reduce fertilizer and pesticide applications on enrolled acres, reduce energy consumption, restore wetlands, improve wildlife habitat and increase stream-flows in streams associated with the Rio Grande Basin.
Information regarding producer and land eligibility for enrollment into a CREP as well as contract terms for enrollment with the State of Colorado & USDA will be shared.
Sargent High School is located at the junction of County Road 7 N and County Road 2 E in Rio Grande County. The new auditorium is on the east side of CR 2E just north of CR 7N.
