MONTE VISTA — Roland Ford and Evelyn Sprouse Rowe invite the public to “A Friendship with a Colorful Side” art show and opening at “All Good Things Gallery” in Monte Vista March 8 and 9 and continuing through the month of March.
“’Not Far from La Garita’, “Another Valley Sunset”, “Ground and Sky,” my friend Roland rattled off some title candidates for his Watercolor Paintings for our upcoming show,” Evelyn Sprouse Rowe said.
She met Roland, near as she can remember, about four years ago. As many artists in small communities (and maybe even large), Evelyn does more than one job to help support her art habit.
In order to balance work and play in a quality way she thinks outside the box when it comes to job opportunities. If someone says a neighbor needs his windows washed (or painted-because she does window art also) or a friend needs someone to sit with a spouse who’s laid up after knee surgery, as was the case with Roland, Evelyn listens up.
“And so started our friendship, sitting, talking, sharing cups of coffee, and eventually painting,” Evelyn recalled.
Roland turns 86 this May and made his first painting when he was 82, and then painting almost every day for the last four years while confined to his home moving around with the help of a walker and friends and of course his super caring wife.
Roland has racked up stacks of bright colorful landscapes even after generously giving many to others as gifts and encouragements. He has given to friends made during home visits for nursing, or those delivering oxygen, or the hairdresser that comments on the one she likes best and to relatives across the country. After all what do you do with all those paintings?
Well, for those who may be a little interested in how Roland is doing in the painting area … please attend a showing at “All Good Things Gallery and Gifts” in Monte Vista just east of the Edward Kennedy Medical Center. The Show will begin March 4th and run through the month of March.
“Roland and myself, Evelyn Sprouse Rowe, will be presenting bold, colorful acrylic and watercolor paintings, paintings inspired by many Valley locations and favorite animal subjects and art expressed through and truly celebrating color and the joy of the creative process. Please come and see….before or at our opening during the Crane Festival Mar 8 and 9. We would love to share these works with you.”
