VALLEY – The San Luis Valley FFA chapters this week have National FFA Week February 16-23.

This year’s theme is Grow, and it celebrates more than 80 years of FFA traditions while eagerly anticipating the organization’s future.

More than 550,000 members nationwide participated in National FFA Week activities at local, state and national levels. These members come from rural, suburban and urban environments and are interested in the diversity of careers within agriculture.

FFA members are the innovators and leaders of tomorrow. Through agricultural education and hands-on learning, they are preparing for the more than 300 career opportunities in the food, fiber and natural resources industry.

The proclamation for National FFA Week acknowledged FFA's agricultural education foundation for America's youth and the future of food, fiber and natural resources systems. It also recognized that FFA promotes premier leadership, personal growth and career success among its members and its motto, "learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, living to serve," gives direction of purpose to students who take an active role in agricultural education.

National FFA Week is sponsored by Tractor Supply Company as a special project of the National FFA Foundation and annually encompasses February 22, George Washington’s birthday.

Tractor Supply Company is the leading retail farm and ranch store brand in America. Founded in 1938 as a mail order tractor parts business, Tractor Supply Company (also referred to a TSC) owns and operates over 1,150 stores in 45 states supplying daily farm and ranch maintenance supplies to a targeted customer base. Based in Brentwood, Tenn., Tractor Supply is a public company whose stock is traded on The NASDAQ National Market under the symbol TSCO.

The National FFA Organization is a national youth organization of 557,318 student members as part of 7,498 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

The National FFA Organization operates under a federal charter granted by the 81st United States Congress and it is an integral part of public instruction in agriculture.
