SOUTH FORK — After 21 years of service as a postal employee at the South Fork Post Office, Janet Chapman is retiring from the United States Postal Service. She will be missed by her customers and especially by her co-workers.

She and her husband, Brent, have resided in South Fork since 1970, where they raised their family of three daughters. Ranae Scott and family currently reside in San Marcos, Calif.; Gretchen Cates and family live in San Diego, Calif.; and Lynnea King and family now live in South Fork.

Janet was raised in Mulvane, Kan. and attended Kansas State Teachers College for two years. She came to Colorado in 1965 and attended Adams State College, where she earned a BA degree in physical education, with a minor in business education in 1968, and a master’s degree in education in 1972.

In 1968, she implemented the Elementary Physical Education Program and the Adaptive Physical Education Program for the Handicapped in the Del Norte Schools, where she taught for 13 years. Janet then taught elementary education in South Fork at Emmanuel Christian Academy for eight years.

Janet worked with Postmaster Rita Velasquez from 1991-2000, and with Postmaster Ted Sandoval from 2000-2013. She has enjoyed working at the Post Office and serving the residents of South Fork. Janet looks forward to spending more time with her family and grandchildren, church activities and gardening.
