Read, learn and be merry

Posted: Friday, Dec 7th, 2012

ALAMOSA —Santa Claus visited Alamosa Elementary (AE) students and their families on Thursday to bring the gift of reading and to kick off the Save the Children and Noerr Program's Santa “Read, Learn and Be Merry” campaign.

Before Santa read “The Night Before Christmas” to the eager crowd, Alamosa City Councilman Josef Lucero read “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.” After Santa took a series of questions from the students that were interested in Ms. Claus’ whereabouts, his reindeers' well-being and the jolly fellow’s shoe size, the AE K-2 gymnasium filled with the sound of Christmas carols like “Frosty the Snowman” and “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.” Before he headed out to visit others this holiday season, Santa gifted the AE students with new books from Scholastic, Inc. and UNO card decks.

Save the Children and The Noerr Programs have teamed up for the third year of “The Santa Cause,” a partnership that values the act of giving back by emphasizing the importance of education support for underserved children living in rural America. Since the partnership began, Noerr has collected more than $325,000 to benefit children in need throughout the country.

Save the Children works to break the cycle of poverty and improve the lives of children by ensuring they have the resources they need—access to a quality education, healthy foods and opportunities to grow and develop in a nurturing environment. When disasters like hurricanes and wildfires strike, Save the Children is among the first on the ground, making sure the needs of children are being met.
