Posted: Friday, Oct 26th, 2012

Rachel Valdez, center, once again earns the 4-H Championship at the Colorado State Fair, a title she has earned three times and her sister Erika has also won.

PUEBLO — Three days of competing at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo in the Western, English and Gymkhana turned out to be a tight race to the top resulting in Rachel Valdez winning the overall Level III and IV State 4-H Championship.

Rachel has held this championship title three times now and her sister Erika claimed Reserve State Champion and has also held the title in the past.

Rachel rode her combination of horses, “Barbie Sunday (Sunday)” and “Keep it Natural (Sammy),” where the duo have competed as far as Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma City and the famous Congress show in Ohio where she claimed a Reserve Title in English Equitation.

Riders from across the state come to Pueblo to compete every year.

“We haven’t had the opportunity to travel as much this year, so it was a good way to end the summer,” claimed Valdez.

The Valdez sisters have a third sister, Olivia who placed third in her division and all three compete in the Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Circuit and are well known for their ability.

The three young ladies all attend school at Centauri in La Jara where they are also involved in sports.
