Laurie Dameron

DEL NORTE — Wildwood Sounds is hosting Laurie D “What Can I Do?” Multimedia Environmental Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, at 850 Grand Ave., Del Norte.

Special guest speaker will be Tom Wolter from the “Rio Grande Watch Dogs.”

In 2012 Laurie Dameron launched a new project “What Can I DO?” Multimedia Environmental Concerts. This is a 60-75 minute educational keynote presentation featuring the photography of renowned John Fielder, Karl Snyder and Laurie Dameron, video, information and live music.

“In the autumn of 2007 I was on a four hour hike in my favorite spot on the planet; Needles District of Canyonlands National Park, Dameron said. “As soon as I started hiking ‘What Can I Do?’ popped into my head. I kept asking myself, ‘What can I do?’ ‘What can little old me do to help this planet’?”

She ended up writing the whole song in her head. Later the next year she was honored to perform the song for the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver.

After that she started doing “What Can I Do?” concerts and tours where she performed her usual mix of folk, blues and jazz but made a special portion of the shows dedicate to singing her “environmental/social” songs and speaking about environmental issues.

In January of 2012 she was contemplating what direction she wanted to start moving. Her spiritual coach asked her, “Laurie, what is the most important thing to you?” Without even having to think she said, “This beautiful Earth.”

Dameron started thinking wouldn’t it be cool to make a whole multimedia presentation for the “What Can I Do?” concerts. And that maybe it would draw larger audiences and make a stronger impact.

Her intention is to present her “What Can I Do?” Multimedia Environmental Concerts as many places as she can.

“We have become a ‘disposable society’,” she said. “I believe it’s the little adjustments we can make that can make a BIG difference. Please ask yourself, ‘What Can I Do’?”

Billboard Magazine award recipient, Laurie Dameron, has been playing the guitar for over 40 years and singing even longer. Between solo performances and performances with her band, Laurie D and the Blues Babes, she has performed for hundreds of venues in and out of Colorado over the past 20 years.

A broad repertoire of folk, instrumental, pop, country, blues, and jazz allows her to perform many different venues. Laurie has composed, arranged and produced two CDs, “Utah Dream” (folk and blues) and “Looking Through the Blue” (jazz compositions).

Her third and newest CD is a compilation of her favorite jazz standards and one original, the title cut, “I Can’t Wait to See You Again” which received an award of honorable mention for the 16th and 17th Annual Billboard Magazine World Song Contest.

Laurie was honored to have been asked to perform her song “What Can I Do?’ at the 2008 Denver Democratic Convention and the song made it to the top ten finalists in the 2011 Tipperary World Peace Song Contest.
