ALAMOSA — From sand castles to Greek mythology, area children were enthralled with the entertainment provided by Southern Peaks Library this summer.
Under the direction of librarian Babbette Reeves children were introduced to musicians, artists and authors they might otherwise not have encountered.
The entertainers were chosen to provide a variety of programs.
The programs were geared to give the children an increased depth of understanding of the world around them and the joy of reading.
One program had the children playing a giant rendition of the board game Candyland. That day there were readings of "The Gingerbread Baby" and Hansel and Gretal and a guitar playing singer with a life-size gingerbread man side-kick.
Reeves invites parents and caregivers to use her website, http://babetter.wordpress.com, for inspiration for reading readiness information.
Reeves has also listed her favorite childrens' books, sorted by age.
