Letter to the editor: Snowed in!

Posted: Tuesday, Jan 10th, 2017

I hate to complain, and yet, here I am! When we got our first snowfall, sometime in November, maybe a couple of inches, we had plows out taking care of the snow, all great. I donít know if it was a practice run or what because the next two snowfalls, there was no sign of them. I contemplated writing then, of course, but then thought better of it, because in previous years I have shoveled the snow off my sidewalks only to have the plows come and undo my hard work, by plowing all the snow back onto my newly clean sidewalks, so I kept my mouth shut, not for long, however...

I came home yesterday from a doctorís visit to find my driveway piled with three feet of snow and ice. I was not happy! I had to park my car in the middle of the road to clean my driveway so I could drive in. Sadly that is not the end of my story. This morning I woke up to a huge mountain of snow in the middle of the road, thanks to the plows, and of course, again on my driveway. My sidewalks? I canít even find them, so I donít expect any fines from anyone because, well, I canít find my sidewalks from all the snow plowed onto them.

I am not the only one upset about this mess. I had neighbors tell me if I wrote a letter they would sign it, but I am not quite that computer literate, so it will be all on me. I guess my point is, either do it right or donít do it. The slush we drove in before was better than the mountains we have had to dig ourselves out of today.

I am sick, literally, so shoveling snow is not at the top of my ďto doĒ list, and yet that is where I and my entire neighborhood are at. Those of you that know me, know I live in the county, so sometimes we donít get the privileges that the city gets, but I would appreciate some consideration. I donít even know how Waste Management is getting to my trash bin this coming week. I was told that by then the snow will have melted. Really? The snow we had before THIS snowfall has been with us since November, I think. So unless someone removes the mounds of snow we have now, we are in it for the long haul, somewhere around March or April when it WILL melt.

Before elections, we had people running for county commissioners coming out of our ears. We couldnít hold a function, without them showing up. I would like for them to come to our neighborhood now, if they can get in, and see what we have to deal with. I am glad they came then, but I would like them to come now, kind of like ďput your money where your mouth isĒ show us that you do care about our community not just when you want our votes. However, I am jaded enough to know that they will all pass the buck and say it is not their responsibility. Prove me wrong and show me that you do care about the counties you represent not just around election time but all the time.
