As we reflect on the past year giving thanks for the many blessings in our lives we would like to take a moment and acknowledge the many San Luis Valley organizations that assist our communities during emergencies.
The San Luis Valley Regional Emergency Operations Center (SLV EOC) supported local emergency responses to several incidents during 2013 including the San Acacio Water Emergency, West Fork Fire Complex and subsequent flash flooding, Del Norte Water Crisis and the Town of Garcia Water Emergency. Each response provided an opportunity to witness multiple acts of kindness from a generous San Luis Valley community.
Our local Alamosa City Market, Safeway and Wal-Mart retailers donated and transported pallets of water for multiple incidents. Fire, EMS and Law Enforcement agencies provided bottled water, transportation and equipment to neighboring partners, demonstrating inter-agency cooperation the San Luis Valley is known for. Local schools opened their doors to provide shelter and work space for incident management purposes. Behind the scenes, elected officials provided support and guidance to facilitate the work of first responders. Social Services and public health agencies provided service and support assistance to affected citizens. Emergency managers coordinated incident response and logistical support between local, regional and state partners. Volunteers donated countless hours to their communities or their neighbors.
It would be impossible to name each agency, generous act or donation, but to each of you who stepped up to care of our communities, we are thankful and remain grateful.
Merry Christmas San Luis Valley.
