November 16-18th is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. This is an appropriate time to thank all the donors that contributed to the coat drive that was held by several agencies. As the Thanksgiving Holiday approaches we reflect on what we are thankful for and how we can donate our time, resources, and attention to those less fortunate. This is a perfect time to take the opportunity to help those who are less fortunate. The agencies involved would like to thank everyone who helped in any way to make this event successful. There were many people who donated their time, sent notices, made banners, and advertised this event in some way. Thank you to the community members that took the time to come in and donate winter gear for this event.
The coat drive that was sponsored by several programs including Adelante Transitional Housing, La Gente, McKinney Vento Homeless Education Program, Migrant Education Program, and Trinidad State Junior College. It was held on November 9th at the Alamosa campus of Trinidad State Junior College. All the programs that were involved would like to thank the donors who have participated and would like to encourage everyone to look in their closets for coats, jackets, and other winter gear that is no longer being used. There are many people who could use them during these cold winter months.
We would like to especially thank Trinidad Junior College for the use of their facility and Roberta Taylor Hill for helping out. For all who donated please know that the jackets will be given to people in need. If you still have jackets consider donating them. You can drop them off at the La Gente office l at 2261 Enterprise Drive or you can take them to the Adelante Office at 529 Main Street. Again a big thank you to all who helped make this event successful.
