With the polarization of politics in state and federal politics, we rely on local government officials to truly represent the people. We look to our city and county officials to truly pull weight on behalf of the citizens.
Over the past several years, I have had the opportunity to get to know and become friends with Matthew Martinez. Before realizing that Matt had political ambitions, I saw in him a genuine passion for people and a passion for finding a path for a better tomorrow.
When I learned that Matt would run for Monte Vista City Council, I was less than surprised; in fact, I was underwhelmed. This, though, is a testament to what Matt is and what he will be as a representative of the people.
In today’s world so many politicians are simply politicians – obscure figureheads who are stoking their ego in the flames of public opinion. But, Matt separates himself from this pack. Instead of being today’s model, Matt is something different.
