Still Waters: And frightened Miss Muffet away …

Posted: Friday, Oct 25th, 2013

Halloween is my least favorite holiday and spiders, associated with the holiday, my least favorite arthropod. Give me a butterfly any day.

I have intense arachnophobia. Living alone, I have conquered my fear enough to kill a spider in the house, since no one else is going to do it, but given the option, I would rather run screaming into a red-anthill in the yard.

I am sure spiders serve a greater good in the universe, and their webs are miraculous, but as far as I’m concerned, they could be extinct and I wouldn’t miss them. They just look evil to me.

I hate them all, daddy longlegs included. A spider could be barely visible or as big as a tarantula, which were prevalent in Oklahoma where I lived part of the time I was growing up. (Some people even have them as pets, heaven help us!) I don’t care about their size or contributions to the world. They all appear malevolent to me.
