An ice melting guitar solo broke through the cold Thursday night. It spilled through the front door with greetings straight from the soul. It was a first time in a long time event; the one-night-standing-room only show.
The daily homecoming is always a quiet routine. It hovers around the time when carriages turn back into pumpkins and the town rests under a blanket of shivering stars. The nights werenít so silent once before, and memories of those times, which recently became quite some time ago, pass between plans for tomorrow and thoughts of yesterday on a moonlight drive.
With a few hours to spare before glass slippers shatter on slippery stairs, the ice melting guitar solo broke the routine and a deep, driving drumming pushed over warm winds, shutting the door. The sound came from around the corner, and no one heard the coat lightly swinging on the coat hanger, the zipper slide down the side of a boot or the sneaking steps filled with curiosity taking open eyes to the shadows near the door. The burning notes grew louder, and the beat tempted the man with the guitar in the his hand to push harder because it was the first time in a long time the sound of live music soothed and stirred the cold.
It was exactly like the memories of the nights of long ago, which canít be said for all reassurances and resurrections. It was loud, so loud, and it went up and down and in and out, forcing smiles out of the startled. With another witness, the chill stayed outside although the fire inside eventually died out due to lack of attention, and the singing grew louder with creations ebb and flow. It went on into the early hours of the next day. It made up for moments lost to lifeís daily choices, and brought forth a simply complex pleasure and a release that remains familiar, building bridges across time with ease, with the sliding of a scale.
Days later the reverb still baits anticipation over the rolling drums before the curtain closed on the one-night-standing-room only show.
The impressed sound of this music will surely escort the passing of plans and thoughts on the routine moonlight drive.
And it is always welcome to take the chill off a cold winterís day wrapped up in the noise and chaos erupting every time a glass slipper breaks leaving the other to predict destiny.
