Carmen Mary DeHerrera, 83

San Luis resident Carmen Mary DeHerrera, passed away peacefully January 4, 2017 at her home under Hospice care with her loving family by her side. Carmen was born on November 4, 1933 in San Acacio, Colorado, the daughter of Adolfo Gardunio and Maria Garcia Gardunio. Carmen devoted her life to caring for her family. She was an active member of the Costilla County Seniors Center. Carmen was an amazing, loving and compassionate mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed attending church and praising God, sewing, baking, working on puzzles, and above all spending time with her loving family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughters Kathy (Gerald) Maestas of Los Fuertes, CO; Joan Aragon of San Luis, CO; Lucy (Mike) Espinoza of Ft. Collins, CO; Amy (Pablo) Valero of Pueblo, CO; grandchildren Beverly Maestas, Amanda Atencio both of Alamosa, CO; Jason Maestas (Roxann Serna) of Los Fuertes, CO; Ashley Maestas (Chris Martinez) of Alamosa, CO; Alexis (Isaac) Lucero of Denver, CO; Nicole DeHerrera of Ft. Collins, CO; Jonathan Espinoza of Alamosa, CO; Joshua Espinoza, Jasmine Espinoza both of Ft. Collins, CO; Anthony DeHerrera of Alamosa, CO; 7 great-grandchildren Aijalon Martinez, Adrianna DeHerrera, JaeLea Maestas, Xiomara Maestas, Carlos Maestas, Gisel Maestas and Araceli Bella Maestas, sisters Orlinda Guzman of Pueblo, CO; Louisa (Sam) Valdez of San Luis, CO; Delia Martinez of Ft. Collins, CO; Martha DeHerrera of San Luis, CO; Patsy (Ernie) Martinez of Pueblo, CO; Leova (Jay) Flora of Ft. Collins, CO; Irene Gardunio of Ft. Collins, CO; and brother Jimmy (Millie) Gardunio of Loveland, CO. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Carmen is preceded in death by her parents Adolfo and Maria Gardunio, husband Henry DeHerrera and one brother Tomas Gardunio.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Apostolic Assembly of Faith Church located at 700 Alfonso Street in San Luis. Interment will follow at the Apostolic Cemetery in San Luis. The care of arrangements has been trusted to Romero Funeral Home of San Luis.
