Arthur Ben Jaramillo, Sr., 89

Longtime Antonito resident Arthur Ben Jaramillo, Sr., 89, died March 30, 2014 at the Rio Grande Inn Nursing Home in La Jara.

Arthur was born in Mogote to Cleofis and Eva Marie (Romero) Jaramillo. He married Susie Julia Marquez at the Catholic Church in La Jara on October 13, 1956 and they have enjoyed more than 57 years together.

Arthur worked for Wonder Bread and Hostess until his retirement after 21 years of service. He then worked for five years for the County of Conejos in Antonito.

Arthurís most cherished times were those spent working on his ranch.

Arthur was truly a family man and spent nearly all his extra time with his family. He enjoyed playing baseball, being in the outdoors camping and gathering firewood, and in his younger years enjoyed motorcycles. He was a wonderful husband and father.

Arthur is survived by his wife Susie Julia Jaramillo of Antonito; his children Larry Marquez of Antonito, Eva Marie Jaramillo of Antonito, Mark (Denise) Jaramillo of Denver and Yvonne Jaramillo of Taos, NM; his sisters Eva (Albert) Herrera of Alamosa and Priscilla Romero of Commerce City, CO; his grandchildren Samantha (Jose) Ochoa, Deviny Herrera and Stephanie (Clint) Easdon; his great-grandchildren Jesus, Jose, Josiah and Isaiah; as well as his special friends whom he considered his daughters Brenda Chavez and Gloria Salazar.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Artie Jaramillo and his brother Joe A. Jaramillo.

A visitation will be held from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Friday, April 4th at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Manassa followed by a Recitation of the Rosary 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in La Jara.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014 also at the Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in La Jara. Committal services will follow in the Las Mesitas Cemetery near Mogote.
