Monte Vista resident Clara Archuleta, 88, passed away December 23, 2013 at the San Luis Care Center surrounded by her loving family. Clara was born on February 20, 1925 in Taos, New Mexico, the daughter of Innocencio Martinez and Josefita Sandoval Martinez. They Migrated to Colorado when Clara was very young. She attended school on Monte Vista, where she met her future husband Sais Archuleta. They were wed in 1941, and in that union they were blessed with five children. She worked at the Monte Vista Hospital for 18 years, then went to work at the Colorado State Veterans Center and stayed with them for 20 years. Clara was an avid member of the St. Joseph Parish, and was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She met many friends at the Tri-County Nursing Home, the Legacy and the San Luis Care Center. Clara enjoyed going to bingo, dancing, going camping and fishing, but above all she cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter Fabiola (Lupe) Luna of Monte Vista, CO; sons Gabe (Ruby) Archuleta of Monte Vista; Sais Archuleta Jr., of Colorado Springs, CO; 15 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law Ray O’Cana of Clearfield, UT, and sister-in-law Eleanor Martinez. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sais Archuleta, one daughter Virginia Ortiz, one infant son Georgie Archuleta, two brothers Archie and Ernest Martinez, sisters Carmel Padilla, Sally Allen, Cora Montoya, Effie O’Cana and Lucy Martinez, one daughter-in-law Brenda Archuleta.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at 6:00 PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 10:00 AM also at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will be held at the Workers Union Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-5 at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Monte Vista. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Romero Funeral Home of Monte Vista.
