I have a teen! How can that be? In my mind I’m still a teen at times. The years have flown by so fast; it honestly amazes me. I think back to that first day we brought you home with fear in our eyes and anticipation in our hearts. You became our first everything, Caden. The first to teach us about unconditional love, the first to give us gray hairs, but most importantly, you were the first to light up our eyes with yours.
As you begin your teen years, please remember the following:
Always stay curious. As a toddler your curiosity about vacuums, doorstops, helicopters and sprinklers kept you constantly learning about the world around you. Don’t ever change that. Ask questions; be curious; discover life.
Be scared, but never afraid. Stay cautious and responsible, but never let fear trap you into being afraid. Keep that “good” head on your shoulders. It will take you far.
Overcome obstacles. I laugh recalling the day Ryker locked you in the backyard and you climbed the 6-foot fence so you could ring the doorbell in the front. Throughout life, you will be “stuck” in many tough situations, but you’ll find your way out, just as you did that day.
