Ross Davie, 90

Posted: Thursday, Nov 14th, 2013

Ross Davie, a lifetime resident of Del Norte, Colorado was born December 19th, 1922 to Ross Sr. and Rosa (Tandy) Davie at their home.  He passed away November 10, 2013.

Ross is survived by his wife Pat (Dickerson) Davie, children; Chet Nash (Francis), Peggy Jo Stout (Joe), and Jacquie Guyor (Stan); 10 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross Sr and Rosa Davie, his brother, Robert Davie, his sister, Rosalie Davie Liddle and granddaughter, Eve Ingram.

Born and raised on the family farm/ranch Ross saw many changes over the years, especially due to the depression and World War II.  On the ranch he participated in the last generation to raise and break wild horses for cavalry.  The family ranch transitioned throughout the years to raising sheep, vegetables and eventually becoming the cattle and hay ranch it is today.  Ross was proud of his success in building upon and continuing the family legacy.

As a young man he excelled in sports and especially enjoyed throwing the javelin. He loved to square dance and that is where he met Pat, his wife of 46 years. Ross was active in the community of Del Norte as a Mason, member of Pioneer United Church, Cattlemen’s Association, Farm Bureau and various agriculture committees over the years. He loved going to farm sales and he was at every farm sale in the Valley for many a year until his blindness prevented him from going.

Ross was a man who never met a stranger and always had an interesting story to tell.  He especially enjoyed sharing the history of his family and the Del Norte community.  Ross will be greatly missed by his large family and many friends.

Services will be held at Pioneer United Church in Del Norte, CO. on Saturday November 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.

Memorial Contributions can be made to Pioneer United Church in Del Norte, CO.

Arrangements were made by Strohmayer`s Funeral Home.
